An Evening with the Drifters featuring Charlie Thomas

and special guests, Doo Wop greats, The Solitaires”

Zeiterion Performing Arts Center

684 Purchase Street New Bedford, MA 02740

Friday, June 20, 2008, 8 PM, Tickets $35

The Zeiterion’s successful series spotlighting the pioneering vocal groups of the 1950s and early ‘60s continues with the return of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Charlie Thomas and his Drifters. Thomas, who is heard on the Drifters’ hits including “Under The Boardwalk”, “Up On The Roof”, and “There Goes My Baby”, is celebrating his 50th anniversary with the rock’n’roll and soul pioneers. One of the most revered doo wop groups of the 1950s, the Solitaires, will be making their first appearance in Southeastern Massachusetts in more than fifty years. Featuring the powerful lead voice of Milton Love, the Harlem, New York quintet delighted audiences with bouncing rockers and ethereal doo wop ballads including “Walking Along” and “The Angels Sang”.

Friends-
We’re excited to officially announce the latest in our series of concerts spotlighting the pioneering doo wop and R&B vocal groups of the 1950s and early 1960s. After their successful visit to New Bedford last year, so many people have requested that we bring the Drifters back for a return engagement that, frankly, we were a little overwhelmed. So, we've listened! Not only are the Drifters coming back...they're returning with a 75 minute show that will feature many of the requests that fans have requested ("Ruby Baby", "I've Got Sand in My Shoes", "I Don't Want To Go On Without You" and more). Milton Love, original lead singer of the Solitaires dating back to 1955, will lead the Solitaires quintet through a HALF-HOUR of classics from the Solitaires songbook including "What Did She Say", "Nothing Like A Little Love", "Please Remember My Heart", and more. All tickets for this event are priced at just $35, which will include our traditional pre-show of vintage vocal group harmony film and television clips. Remember- A successful event will ensure the return of Doo Wop At The Z in November!! Tickets will go on sale VERY SOON!!!. Box office hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 AM to 5 PM and Saturday 10AM to 3 PM. Box office phone number is (508)-994-2900. Tickets can also be purchased from the Zeiterion website at www.zeiterion.org. All day parking is available in the theatre’s adjacent garage for just $2.
